The Master's degree in oral sciences provides training in scientific research of a fundamental, clinical or epidemiological type.

This program allows the student:

  • to develop basic skills in dental research
  • to approach a given problem with a rigorous scientific approach;
  • become familiar with various research work environments;
  • to develop communication skills.

Research projects can be carried out in collaboration with other faculties, research institutions, community or industrial partners.

A special course in the program only intended for students registered in the undergraduate doctoral program in dental medicine (DMD) allows a combined course with the Master's degree in oral sciences. Registration for the master's begins at the end of the first year of undergraduate doctoral studies in dentistry. Note that this combined path does not allow direct passage to 3rd cycle studies.

Combined course of the Undergraduate Doctorate in Dentistry (DMD) and the Masters in Oral Sciences.
The DMD/M.Sc. pathway, which allows students to complete a master's degree in oral sciences while progressing in the DMD program, is currently under review. Meanwhile, only exceptional applications from students currently enrolled in the 1st year of the DMD of the University of Montreal, having already completed a minimum of 2 years in a bachelor's program in a relevant field (for example, biology, engineering, physiotherapy, etc.), for a total of 90 university credits at the end of their 1st year of the DMD, and having research experience will be considered.
