The doctoral program in French-language literatures allows the study of these literatures as well as their history, including those of Quebec, France and the European, North African, African and West Indian Francophonies.
Goals:
General objective The Ph.D. program aims to enable students to acquire advanced training through the deepening of current critical tools likely to serve a personal reflection on French-language literature. Doctoral work finds its conclusion in a thesis which contributes to the advancement of knowledge. Two types of doctorates are possible, namely the doctorate in research and the doctorate in research-creation.
Research option The objective of the research doctorate program is to train researchers capable of contributing new knowledge in one of the fields of specialization of the discipline. French literature, Quebec literature, Francophone literatures are among the areas covered by the seminar program, as well as the main theoretical and methodological issues, with a broad historical perspective. The thesis is the centerpiece of the training and must result in a study that can be published.
Research-creation option The objective of the doctoral program in research-creation is to promote the emergence of new knowledge from a dialogue between literary writing and analysis. The practice of literary creation, on the one hand, and the elaboration of a critical or theoretical questioning from a corpus of analysis, on the other hand, constitute the two distinct but complementary aspects of this thesis. The creative work presents an unpublished text of a number of pages varying according to the genre or the device chosen. The research does not consist of a description of the creative process, but rather of a study based on a new problematic.
