This program aims to train for preschool education and primary education students who already hold a baccalaureate.


It provides future teachers with relevant training in preschool education and the teaching of different areas of primary school and makes them professionals with educational tools adapted to the current Quebec school environment.


The master's degree in education, option Preschool education and primary education is aimed at holders of a bachelor's degree who have a strong interest in education, children and who want to become professionals in preschool and primary education. The program is aimed both at students who have a teaching task in a school or private educational institution in Quebec, and at students without employment ties. Practical training integrated with training in didactics, psychopedagogy and administration and the foundations of education promotes successful professional integration, implementation of knowledge and professional skills in the context of Quebec schools and preparation for multiple requirements.

The program leads to a master's degree in education, early childhood education and primary education as well as the granting of a legal license to teach.

Admission requirements

To be eligible as a student for the master's degree in education, preschool and elementary education option, the candidate must:
  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Academic Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (RPESP);
  • hold an undergraduate degree adequately preparing for the studies they wish to undertake or attest to training deemed equivalent;
  • have obtained, in the 1st cycle, an average of at least 3.0 out of 4.3 or the equivalent in the case of a baccalaureate obtained by accumulation;
  • pass the complementary refresher course DID1000T – Notions of mathematics in elementary school. The DID1000T course must be passed at the end of the first year. A second failure in this course results in the end of the application.
  • pass the complementary course DID2000 – Oral. The DID2000 course must be passed at the end of the second year. A second failure in this course results in the end of the application.
