The Master's in Education, orthopedagogy option, made up of courses only, is a 45-credit continuing education program for teachers of all school levels who work with students with special needs.
The training covers five main aspects of remedial education:
  • the orthodidactics of mathematics,
  • the orthodidactics of French,
  • remedial education for students with adjustment and behavioral difficulties,
  • remedial education for students with disabilities,
  • remedial education as a support for learning.

This professional master's degree allows students to emphasize the consolidation of skills necessary for orthopedagogical practice and to integrate research more effectively into this practice by carrying out an internship or an essay on a professional problem of their choice. Its structure is designed to accommodate eligible students who have completed the DESS in orthopedagogy.
The education professionals targeted by this program can occupy different positions within public or private establishments, at different school levels or even in regional support and expertise services. They are for example:
  • homeroom teacher of a regular class or a special class;
  • special education teacher;
  • remedial teacher;
  • resource teacher to support the learning of students with special needs;
  • resource teacher in support of teachers;
  • adapted services advisor;
  • counselor to SWD;
  • educational consultant;
  • regional resource coordinator, etc.

Admission requirements

Undergraduate

3+
  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Academic Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies;
  • hold an undergraduate degree in education adequately preparing for training in the management of a school establishment, or attest to training deemed equivalent;
  • have obtained, in the 1st cycle, an average of at least 3.0 out of 4.3 (or the equivalent) or the average required by the home university for admission to a 2nd cycle program, if that -this is higher;
  • have relevant experience as an education professional of at least two years;
  • pass, for any non-French-speaking candidate, a French as a second or foreign language test and present a result of C1 in written and oral comprehension AND in written and oral production on a standardized test such as the TEF, the TCF or the DALF.
