Acquire mastery of one's instrument in a choice of concert works and develop one's autonomy and one's own artistic personality through the acquisition of knowledge relating to the various parameters of the research-creation process (theoretical knowledge, understanding, performance techniques). Through the theoretical component, open the door to doctoral studies.

Option Voice and Classical Instruments:

  • Students who perform in concert with the Orchester de l'Université de Montréal (OUM) to interpret the great works of the symphonic repertoire and who also have the opportunity to join the Atelier d'Opéra during an annual production;
  • Several masterclasses, offered each year in all disciplines, given by leading performers

Admission requirements

Undergraduate

3.3+
To be eligible as a regular student in the M. Mus. (interpretation), the candidate must:
  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Academic Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies;
  • have obtained, in their previous studies, an average of at least 3.3 out of 4.3 or the equivalent
  • hold an undergraduate degree in the discipline or hold a 3rd cycle degree from the Conservatoire or attest to academic training deemed equivalent by the dean/dean;
  • attend a 30-minute audition, which will include four works of different styles, representative of the instrument's repertoire and demonstrating the candidate's musicality and technical means.

The candidate must attest to a good knowledge of French. All students who have obtained their undergraduate university degree (or its equivalent) in a non-French-speaking institution must submit to one of the French tests accepted by the University of Montreal (see the Center for written communication website : cce.umontreal.ca The result of the test is not eliminatory, but may lead to the imposition of a certain number of French courses deemed necessary for the success of the program.
The candidate must demonstrate a good knowledge of English.
