Develop your skills as a psychoeducator capable of rigorously deploying any professional and scientific activity in your field, namely prevention and intervention with people at risk or with adjustment difficulties, families, groups or organizations. This program allows the mastery of different knowledge, know-how and attitudes in psychoeducation based on best practices with the aim of addressing the adaptation difficulties and adaptive capacities of individuals, and thus promoting a dynamic balance with their environment. 

Three methods are offered:

  • With internship (professional integration): complete training in professional practice in psychoeducation giving access to the OPPQ
  • With research and internship: complete training in research and professional practice in psychoeducation giving access to the OPPQ
  • With research: complete research training giving access to the Research option of the doctorate in psychoeducation, but not to the OPPQ
Thus, this program prepares you to:

  • Plan and carry out systematic work of collecting and analyzing information in order to answer clinical or scientific questions, hypotheses and problems
  • Plan, implement, lead, evaluate and adjust your interventions based on customer needs and recognized best practices
  • Establish a relationship of trust and help vulnerable people
  • Communicate effectively with diverse audiences (written and oral)
  • Establish collaborative relationships with partners, while asserting yourself in your professional or scientific field
  • Adopt reflective thinking that demonstrates a critical sense of your actions and achievements

General eligibility conditions

To be eligible as a regular student, the candidate must meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Required diplomas and admission thresholds: Quebec

To meet the Université de Montréal average of 3.0 out of 4.3, candidates from this province must meet the following requirements:

Accepted diploma: Baccalaureate, Bachelor; duration of 3 years, or other undergraduate degree deemed equivalent.

Minimum average:

  • Bishop: 75%
  • Concordia University: 3.0/4.3
  • Higher Technology School: 3.0/4.3
  • HEC Montreal: 3.0/4.3
  • McGill University: 3.0/4.0
  • Polytechnique Montréal: 2.75/4.0

Conditions specific to this program

To be eligible as a regular student for the M. Sc. (psychoeducation), the candidate must:

  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI of the Educational Regulations) for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
  • hold a bachelor's degree in psychoeducation OR hold a bachelor's degree in psychology or criminology or the equivalent. These candidates must successfully complete a preparatory course with an average of at least 3.2 in all courses and a grade of at least B in each of these preparatory courses.
  • have obtained in the 1st cycle an average of at least 3.0 out of 4.3 or the equivalent

The candidate must have sufficient knowledge of French and English.
