The program addresses issues relating to nutrition and its effect on health.
The issues are not only medical and nutritional, but also concern food safety and the repercussions of production and processing methods on food quality and the environment.
At the crossroads of biological sciences and behavioral sciences, earth sciences and social sciences, nutrition studies the complex relationship of human beings with food.
Goals: Train researchers in the field of human nutrition. The University directs its research towards the relationships between nutrition and health: nutritional, metabolic and hormonal aspects of obesity, anorexia nervosa and diabetes; metabolism of lipids and ketone bodies; role of lipids in hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis; effects of nutrition and aging on liver function; factors involved in cholestasis; role of nutrients in parenteral nutrition; nutrition and cancer; epidemiology of nutritional status in populations at risk in Canada or in developing countries; study of nutritional factors related to obesity, diabetes, cancer; sports nutrition; nutrition education.

To be eligible as a regular Ph.D. student (nutrition), the candidate must:

meet the general eligibility conditions (section XX) of the Academic Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
hold a 2nd cycle degree preparing adequately for the studies they wish to undertake, or be eligible for direct access to the Doctorate, or attest to training deemed equivalent, including university-level courses in anatomy and physiology, biochemistry and microbiology. Candidates who do not have a bachelor's degree in nutrition or nutrition and dietetics and whose 1st or 2ndgraduate course in nutrition is deemed insufficient, must successfully complete 6 credits of prerequisite undergraduate courses recommended by the graduate committee of the Department of Nutrition during the evaluation of the file before being able to register for graduate courses in nutrition. This candidate could take certain graduate courses in nutrition concurrently, on the recommendation of the graduate studies committee.
