Public health professionals act on everything that directly or indirectly influences health on a daily basis. Their role is to promote, protect and improve the health of the population by intervening on the various agents that can influence it, such as smoking, vaccination, disaster management, the organization of health services, and pollution. 
The ESPUM doctorate in public health trains high-level experts, with a tangible and global vision of public health, specialized in one or other of the six disciplinary fields offered as options.
The program develops in students in-depth research skills enabling them to become autonomous researchers and qualified professors capable of in turn training students at the three university cycles. The approach advocated by ESPUM promotes the development of values ​​and rigorous ethical principles, allowing graduates to be recognized both in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada and around the world.

Admission requirements

Undergraduate

3.5+
To be eligible as a regular Ph.D. student (public health), the candidate must:
  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XXVI) of the Academic Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
  • hold a master's degree (M.Sc.) or an equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline (see the specifications specific to each option)
  • have obtained, in the 2nd cycle, an average of at least 3.5 out of 4.3 or the equivalent
  • meet the file review and interview requirements (if applicable) of the ESPUM PhD in Public Health program.
Have sufficient knowledge of spoken and written French. No French test is required to be admitted to the program. However, once admitted, students deemed to be non-French-speaking must pass a French test http://espum.umontreal.ca/etudes/competences-linguistiques ;
Have a sufficient understanding of written English, several public health readings and reference materials are in English.
