At the heart of a metropolis renowned for its cultural, ethnic and religious diversity, the Institute of Religious Studies (IÉR) aims to integrate fundamental and applied research to deepen understanding of religions in their contexts and with their challenges. 
His work in theology, religious studies and spirituality favors an interdisciplinary approach and draws on the human and social sciences.
Goals: General option The objectives of the Ph.D. (sciences of religions) are to analyze the various issues raised by religion; to lead to the production of original work that contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the disciplinary field of religious studies; to train researchers open to interdisciplinarity, capable of carrying out high-level research in the academic sectors, private enterprise or in the public domain; to train professionals in relevant sectoral fields.
Spirituality option The Spirituality option more specifically aims to analyze the various issues relating to spiritual experience; to lead to the production of original work that contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the disciplinary field of spirituality; to train researchers open to interdisciplinarity, capable of carrying out high-level research in the academic sectors, private enterprise or in the public domain; to train professionals in relevant sectoral fields.

Admission requirements

To be admissible as a regular Ph.D. student (religious studies), the candidate must:
  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XX) of the Academic Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
  • hold a master's degree in religious sciences or attest to training deemed equivalent
  • have obtained in the 2nd cycle an average of at least 3.3 out of 4.3 or the equivalent
