The sociology program focuses on inequalities, diversity and social representations.

It applies to various fields and attests to an understanding of the processes at work in relation to actions, relationships, organizations and social transformations; skills in qualitative (interview, life story, content analysis, case study) and quantitative (survey, network analysis, social statistics) survey methods; and a capacity for critical analysis.

The master's degree is very flexible and makes it possible to reach the varied interests of the students. It can lead to a career in research or intervention, to employment in the community or even to a career as a college professor.

To be eligible as a regular student for the master's in sociology, the candidate must:

meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Academic Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
hold a bachelor's degree (B. Sc.) in sociology, or a bachelor's degree with a major in sociology, or a joint bachelor's degree including sociology or attest to training deemed equivalent. Holders of a bachelor's degree with a minor in sociology or a bachelor's degree without training in sociology may be admitted conditionally on passing a propaedeutics defined by the Graduate Studies Committee upon examination of their file and profile.
have obtained an undergraduate average of at least 3.0 out of 4.3 (or the equivalent) or the average required by the home university for admission to a graduate program, if that is higher

Admissions are permitted in the fall and winter terms.
The candidate must have a good knowledge of spoken and written French as well as written English (reading ability).
