This program offers an original look at the human fact as a whole.

It offers an introduction to human societies, using an elaborate intellectual and methodological approach.

The program allows the student to acquire training that is both versatile and specialized thanks to the four specializations of the discipline:

  • archeology,
  • bioanthropology,
  • ethnology,
  • ethnolinguistics.

Archeology observes our species, from its origins to the present day. It reconstructs lifestyles from material data from archaeological excavations and involves learning excavation techniques, recording artefacts and laboratory analysis.

Bioanthropology is interested in the origins and evolution of the human species through primatology, paleontology and genetics. It studies the biological variability between individuals of the same population or different populations, and the complex relationships between nature and culture.

Ethnology considers human societies from the point of view of their traditional organization (ecology, politics, law, economy, religion, kinship, health, technology) and their contemporary reality (migrations and exiles, ethnicity, cultural productions, globalization). It involves learning field methods and ethnocinematography.

Ethnolinguistics  examines the diversity of linguistic practices of communities (multilingualism, registers, styles). She focuses on the particularities of languages, human communication and linguistic communities.
