Undergraduate Doctorate in Medicine (MD)

The program prepares future physicians for their roles as scientific and humanistic professionals, communicators and collaborators within multidisciplinary teams, in order to meet the needs of a changing society and the imperatives of a health system in full transformation.

All candidates must have successfully completed, within the prescribed timeframe, the prerequisite courses specified in the eligibility requirements. But beyond this requirement, the orientation of the studies of the candidates in exact or human sciences does not affect the probability of being admitted in medicine. The Faculty therefore encourages its future students to acquire training that is as rich and versatile as possible.

The undergraduate doctorate in medicine lasts four years. However, a preparatory year is required for college students, international students, and university students whose program of study is not deemed broadly equivalent to that of the preparatory year (see the Admissions and Requirements tab for a partial list of University of Montreal programs deemed equivalent).

All candidates apply for admission to the preparatory year of the MD program (1-450-4-0). Depending on the candidate's academic profile, the Admissions Committee will decide whether an application will be considered for the preparatory year or for the first year of medicine.
