Should social networks offering free services such as Facebook be subject to intervention by competition authorities? Can Member States’ measures combating climate change be tolerated under EU state aid rules? Questions like these will be discussed during the track European Competition Law and Regulation part of the Master's International and European Law.

Global challenges such as fast technological changes, climate change and societal transformation disrupt existing market structures and business models. They challenge our current understanding of how markets work. As businesses adjust their practices to the changing market, the boundaries of the law and existing models of regulation are greatly influenced. Can private sustainability initiatives of firms escape competition law control? How should EU law regulate the sharing and platform economy, for example Airbnb or Uber? During this track you will learn to analyse and reflect on these issues.

At least one course in your study programme is part of the Amsterdam Law Practice, our unique experiential education. A contemporary way of learning, in which you learn by doing and develop your professional identity by reflecting on who you are as a legal professional.

Your academic background must include an academic degree comparable to a Dutch Bachelor of Laws:

A Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences from any University College in the Netherlands, including at least 45 EC of law courses as part of this completed programme.
A Bachelor’s degree comparable to a Dutch Bachelor’s degree in European Studies or International Relations, including at least 45 EC of law courses as part of this completed programme.
A Bachelor’s degree from a research university (Dutch: WO) in another discipline, provided that at least 60 EC of law courses were obtained within this completed programme.
A Bachelor’s degree in the law track of PPLE (Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics), or comparable education at another research university.
A Bachelor’s degree from a research university (Dutch: WO) that does not belong to the above-mentioned categories followed by the Dutch-language Pre-Master’s programme (‘schakelprogramma’) International and European Law.
A Bachelor’s degree in Law from a university in applied sciences (Dutch: HBO-Rechten, CROHO code 39205) followed by the Dutch-language Pre-Master’s programme with ‘civiel effect’ at the Open University (Schakelzone Recht)
