Can the EU impose sanctions on Russia for its alleged involvement in the downing of MH-17? Do human rights treaties apply when armed forces operate abroad? Today, problems increasingly transcend national boundaries. Climate change, terrorism and mass migration are examples of issues that require global solutions. During the track Public International Law of the Master's International and European Law we look at international law as a tool to achieve and implement those solutions.

The track Public International Law provides you with a solid understanding of general international law while also allowing specialization in a particular area. You can tailor the programme to your interests and ambitions by enrolling in elective courses. You will be taught by leading researchers in the field and by people working with international law in practice.

At least one course in your study programme is part of the Amsterdam Law Practice, our unique experiential education. A contemporary way of learning, in which you learn by doing and develop your professional identity by reflecting on who you are as a legal professional.
