Science for Energy and Sustainability (SfES) is an interdisciplinary track within the UvA Master's programmes Chemistry and Physics and Astronomy. Each discipline contributes courses that can be selected allowing a programme geared towards only physics, a mixture of physics and chemistry or supplemented with courses dealing with societal aspects of sustainability. It's a joint degree programme of the University of Amsterdam and VU Amsterdam.

SfES combines 'hard' scientific research with the analysis of societal issues, business models and government regulations. The programme allows for a flexible curriculum containing mostly physics or additional chemistry or business oriented courses; as such it covers a broad area of hot topics, such as renewable energy technologies, green chemistry and photophysical and photochemical energy conversion.

SfES is an outward-looking programme, geared towards the cutting edge of energy and sustainability research. It gives you the skills and knowledge to move from understanding the state-of-the-art, to actually developing new sustainable technologies that can be implemented in society.
