This program offers opportunities for students to pursue deeper study in the history, literature, and theory of Western music as well as in related fields such as literature, anthropology, philosophy, and history. The degree culminates in a Senior Thesis, guided by members of the faculty. The Bachelor of Music in Music History and Literature is designed for students who wish to pursue graduate study in musicology, as well as those who are planning a career in a non-teaching, non-performance area of music such as ensemble management and representation, information sciences, or educational media. Typical career paths: Paths chosen by our graduates in music include: teaching in elementary/secondary school or in a studio/conservatory setting: performing as a soloist, chamber, choral, church, or orchestral musician; continuing with graduate-level study; composing or arranging musical works; teaching in a college or university; and pursuing careers in music librarianship, music therapy, music publishing, or business-related areas of the music industry.
