About University of Opole

The University of Opole is a public research university located in Opole, Poland. It is one of 21 Polish universities and one of three public institutes of higher education in Opole. The University of Opole was the first public university established after fall of communism and the first one to host a theological faculty. The university mission encompasses both research and research-informed teaching, with the latter being an important part of the university tradition. Being an inclusive and open institution, the university welcomes students from non-traditional backgrounds, including underprivileged comm unities.

The university’s  unique “Opole educational model” is based on the assumption that graduates, including those enrolled in professional and vocational programmes, should have a sound liberal arts background. The Opole model gives the students the best of both worlds – the opportunity to study at a research institution and personal care and available usually only in liberal arts colleges.

One of the hallmarks of the University of Opole is its well-balanced mix of pure and applied research, the university has also well-developed ties with business, industry and public administration, resulting in pioneering model of cooperation of academic and non-academic stakeholders for the benefit of the Opole region.

The University of Opole maintains strong research links with numerous institutions in Poland and abroad.  The University of Opole hosts a UNESCO Chair on Cultural Property Law and supervises a palaeontological excavation site in Krasiejów, which is considered to be one of the most valuable sites in the world. A sensational discovery was made there of Triassic proto-dinosaurs.
