New technologies are driving dramatic transitions in energy systems for heat, electricity and transport. These future energy systems will have much lower carbon emissions, be more renewable, efficient, flexible and intelligent, and more geographically distributed. New Zealand’s 80% renewable electricity puts us at the forefront of these changes. Otago's unique programme aims to create energy professionals with the scientific knowledge, real world skills, and flexible problem solving to drive this transition in New Zealand and globally. Students from a range of backgrounds are welcome to study in Otago’s energy programmes. A good pass in NCEA Level 3 Calculus is recommended for entry to Math 160 and a good pass in NCEA Level 3 Physics is needed for Physics papers PHSI 131/132.
