About UPES

Since opening its doors in 2003, UPES has made a name for itself as the ‘University of Tomorrow’.

As a UPES student, you’ll enjoy the prestige and opportunities that both UGC (University Grants Commission) recognition and NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Cell) ‘A’ grade accreditation bring.

Ranked 52nd overall in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023, and recognised as the third best private university in India (QS World University Rankings 2023), UPES is driven by its mission to equip students with the skills and knowledge to become the leaders and change-makers of tomorrow.

At UPES, you have the power to design your own degree, tailoring your studies to your own interests and goals. Choose from a broad range of industry-relevant programmes across eight schools: engineering, computer science, law, design, business, health sciences and technology, modern media, and liberal studies.

When you join UPES, you’ll embark on a journey to become an industry-focused professional with an international outlook. You’ll gain the skills and knowledge that employers value worldwide, and the confidence to pursue your goals, thanks to industry partnerships, extracurricular activities and hands-on learning opportunities.

UPES is located just outside the city of Dehradun, northern India, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. Known as India’s ‘Education Capital’, it’s a city rich with history and culture, home to renowned intellectuals, and a bustling hub of prestigious institutions, drawing students from across India and the world.

Hindi is the official language of Dehradun, but English is also widely spoken. You’ll also hear people speaking the regional language, Garhwali, as well as Punjabi, Nepali, Bengali and Tibeto-Burman.

Perched 2,200 feet above sea level, in Dehradun you’ll witness awe-inspiring sunsets against the backdrop of the Himalayas, lush greenery, pristine air, and a moderate climate throughout the year. Despite the vibrant energy of city, there’s a tranquillity on campus that comes from being so close to nature, making it the perfect environment for an enriching learning – and living – experience.

From shopping at Paltan Bazaar to exploring Robber’s Cave, visiting the ancient Takeshwar Temple to taking a dip in the healing waters of Sahastradhara. For adventure seekers, the close proximity to popular spots like Mussoorie and Auli present opportunities for hiking, paragliding, river rafting, and skiing.
