Research areas are: cardiovascular and microvascular dysfunction during sepsis; statins, steroids and sepsis; anaesthesia, hypertension and the microcirculation; perioperative myocardial ischaemia; manifestations of SIRS in cardiopulmonary bypass; automatic systems control engineering in biological systems; laboratory techniques to study the microcirculation: intravital microscopy, pressure and wire myography; the extra-splenic circulation and control of blood volume: role of peptides; novel nociceptin agonists/ antagonists and the microcirculation; calpains and sepsis; neural networks and fuzzy local control of mechanical ventilation: physiology and pharmacology of perioperative liver function; respiratory physiology and muscle function in intensive care.
