This course allows you to study these two highly complementary subjects that are fundamental to biotechnology and medicine. You'll learn about proteins, enzymes, hormones and receptors, and the importance of bacteria, viruses and other microbes in the environment and as pathogens. We'll also introduce you to how biochemistry and microbiology can be applied to the major challenges affecting humanity today, from understanding the global threat of antimicrobial-resistant infections to feeding a global population. All of our students take compulsory modules which will give you specialist knowledge of biochemistry and microbiology, whilst also introducing you to genetics and molecular biology. As you progress through your degree and discover what you're passionate about, optional modules will allow you to explore your chosen subject in greater depth, specialise in one area, keep your interests broad or even switch to another degree programme within the molecular biosciences.
