Program Purpose The Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering provides students with a world-class in-depth education in a research area of their choosing. The educational program has sufficient breadth so students can transition to new research areas as needed. Learning Outcomes M.S. program graduates will have an understanding of the basic principles of mechanical engineering and an in-depth understanding of the governing principles of, and expertise in, one of the core areas of mechanical engineering. M.S. program graduates will have the ability to apply their understanding of mechanical engineering principles to the design, analysis, and integration of systems or processes. M.S. thesis program graduates will have technical writing and oral presentation skills to allow them to effectively convey the results of their work to others. M.S. program graduates will have the skills and understanding required for life long education and professional development. M.S. thesis program graduates will have the ability to develop research plans, critically analyze published research, conduct research, and communicate their research results through written documents and oral presentations.
