The purpose of the Fitness and Wellness Specialist emphasis area is to prepare students to become certified and work professionally in the fitness, health, and wellness fields upon graduation. Students will be able to administer safe and effective fitness programs for adults and special populations, adopt and modify physical activity prescriptions for individuals, and promote physical activity in the community. Students in this emphasis area will be prepared to work in health clubs, corporate wellness, clinical exercise settings such as cardiac and/or pulmonary rehab, strength and conditioning and other fitness and wellness centered settings. Students may also use this path in preparation for graduate school programs in areas such as kinesiology, nutrition, health promotion, physical therapy, physician assistant, and other allied health fields.
