This degree combines the studies of two major European languages and their cultures. Students will take core modules in French and German language every year, combining these with a range of literary, cultural, and political options. In French component during the first year, students will take a core module that develops their existing language skills; in German, students will either take Modern German Language I or Modern German Language for Beginners. From the second year, alongside the linguistic studies, students will choose from a large selection of non-language modules, designed to extend their knowledge and understanding of the literature, culture, society, and politics of the French- and German-speaking worlds, in both a historical and a contemporary perspective. Students will spend their second or third year abroad. For those learning German for the first time, their year abroad will normally be in the third year.
