Germany has always been at the heart of the European intellectual tradition and is now the driving force of its economy and the EU. German Studies at Warwick will explore the extraordinary breadth and depth of German language and culture in collaboration with recognised experts in the field. Intensive language work from advanced level opens the richness of German language and cultural life. Combining German with Japanese aims to prepare students to graduate as highly qualified linguists with a deep understanding of key issues and developments in Germany’s past and present and advanced intercultural skills, so graduates can compare and move between languages and cultures. A quarter of the time throughout this programme will be spent on Japanese and students will spend their second or third year abroad. This language can only be taken at beginner's or post-GCSE (or equivalent) level maximum. The course aims to bring students to B2 standard (CEFR) in this language (this approximates to A Level) by the end of the degree. For students with any prior learning of the language please contact [email protected] before applying.
