The attainment of a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering will normally require at least two years work beyond the master's degree. This program considers for admission students with outstanding academic ability and a demonstrated capacity for undertaking independent research on advanced engineering problems. The attainment of a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering will normally require at least two years work beyond the master's degree. A minimum of 72 graduate hours, at least 42 hours must be earned in formal coursework. A minimum of 24 in-resident coursework hours required. Mechanical Engineering Courses Note: PhD Students are only permitted to take ME courses at the 5000 level for credit. Graduate Admission Process Overview The Mechanical Engineering admits students throughout the academic year. Only complete applications are considered for admission and graduate assistantships. Our application process is very competitive. For full admission, a GRE total score (verbal and quantitative) a minimum of 307 is required (for doctoral candidates). TOEEFL scores a minimum score of 577 on the written exam or 90 on the Internet-based test (iBT) is required. Note: prospective PhD students are only admitted with faculty advisor support.
