We are one of Canada’s leading graduate programs in Geography. Our recognized strength is in both biophysical processes and in critical human geography. Your fellow students are engaged in fieldwork from the High Arctic to South Africa to Southeast Asia, as well as in York’s hydrology, GIS/remote sensing, climatology and biogeochemistry labs. You’ll join a group of 65 students supervised by more than 30 professors whose area of expertise is linked to research institutes including the City Institute, Global Labour Research Center, the Centre for Refugee Studies, the Centre for Feminist Research, York Centre for Asian Research, and the Centre for Research on Latin America & the Caribbean. All of our graduate student receive financial support in the form of assistantships or scholarships. Most of our students also receive support for their fieldwork from graduate faculty members' research grants.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies is dedicated to enhancing the academic and professional experiences of our graduate students. The Faculty of Graduate Studies provides pan-university support and leadership for graduate education at York, oversees the governance of and financial support for graduate programs, works collaboratively with other Faculties and units on campus to support excellence and innovation in graduate education at York, and oversees quality assurance for our graduate programs. Our principal objective is to facilitate graduate education and research, ensure that the academic needs of our students are being met and their potential realized, to secure better convergence of the priorities of graduate education and the research activities undertaken by faculty members, and participate in long-term planning for graduate success so as to ensure that York retains its reputation in its traditional areas of strength while enabling additional growth in pure, applied and health sciences.
