Students will discover the principles of heredity and evolution and learn how they can map genes, and understand their function. Students will also consider how the development of multi-cellular organisms can progress from a single cell through regulated courses of gene expression, and learn the detailed mechanisms by which genes can be switched on and off. In Year 3, students will have the opportunity to go on a placement with one of Edinburgh’s `trusted partner' organisations in the UK or abroad.
