This course is identical to the Mechanical Engineering MEng, but includes an additional year spent working in industry. Students will be spending a structured placement year in industry, which would normally be completed after the third year of the Mechanical Engineering degree course (with students returning after their placement to complete the 4th year of study). However, students may opt to organise their placement after the second year. During the placement year students are supervised by the host company and progress is monitored by the university. The course is taught via a combination of lectures, tutorial classes, practical laboratory sessions and computer-based sessions. There is a design project each year, which involves teamwork in small groups, and allows students to apply and develop their problem-solving and project management skills.  In the third year each student undertakes an individual project, allowing them to pursue a particular subject or application area in greater depth.
