For students interested in becoming highly competent in spoken Italian as well as acquiring an understanding of micro and macro-economics, this combined degree offers just that. The opportunity to directly experience Italian life and culture and put your Italian language skills into practice is presented through the year abroad. Why study this course? Combine the study of Italian language and culture with a broader understanding of the increasingly critical economic and related issues that dominate the news agenda and shape the world in which we live. Through this course you will master the fundamental elements of the Italian language and can expect to become confident and highly skilled in written and spoken Italian. You will also gain a broad understanding of the most important features of the culture and history of Italy, from the Middle Ages to today The economics part of this joint degree places less emphasis on mathematical and statistical content, and instead you will focus on the relevance of how they are applied to problems. After the course By the time you graduate, you can expect to be able to write and speak fluently in Italian – a big advantage given the current shortage of well-qualified linguists in the UK. The experience of studying or working abroad distinguishes you from non-language graduates, providing evidence of self-reliance, adaptability and enterprise. The course also provides you with numerous transferable skills in research, analysis, presenting and group working, which will prove useful in a wide range of careers. Our graduates have an excellent record of gaining employment or progressing to further study, with past graduates finding careers in many different sectors, including education, publishing, translation, EU institutions, finance, fashion, entertainment, the film business and tourism, both in the UK and abroad. Past employers of our graduates include companies and organisations such as the Ministry of Defence, Energis Communication, BNP Paribas, Dow Jones and the civil service.
