USask offers its close to 21,000 undergraduate students one of the most diverse range of academic programs in Canada, including colleges and schools of arts and science, medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy and nutrition, law, engineering, agriculture, business, education, and kinesiology, with degrees and certificates across more than 130 fields of study.

In addition to the opportunity to study at one of Canada’s top research universities, students have access to innovative, cutting-edge facilities and programs that are unique in the Canadian post-secondary environment.

USask offers a multi-faceted, unique-in-Canada approach to undergraduate research experiences. This includes more than 2,000 students participating in First Year Research Experience (FYRE) courses, access to an array of summer research internship opportunities, and a USask-wide co-curricular credit offered through the Student Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program – a unique research and professional skills development program that complements our course-based and faculty-supported disciplinary training, research assistantships, co-ops and internships.

Student success is one of our top priorities. In addition to the many scholarships and bursaries, undergraduates are supported through numerous services such as learning communities, access and equity services, the International Student and Study Abroad Centre, Aboriginal Students’ Centre, a new Student Wellness Centre, and an on-campus language centre that offers English as a Second Language (ESL) programs and bridging programs that enable ESL students to take a university-level class while finishing their English language program.

Close to 3,250 university students have self-declared as Indigenous, and just over 3,600 international students enroll every year.

Students have the opportunity to live on campus in one of our residences, located just steps away from classrooms and services. USask residences provide an unparalleled living environment for students. Students are part of a diverse and global community where they can develop life-long friendships and create lasting memories.

The university offers students the open and supportive community they need to succeed by encouraging diverse ideas, collaboration, and interdisciplinary study. Students have the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in their field of study, whether by taking part in an internship or co-op program, participating in a field class, or by taking advantage of a study-abroad program at another Canadian or international institution.

The diverse community of students, staff and faculty creates an environment where all can feel welcome, and where a culture of learning, growth and deeper understanding extends beyond the classroom.

With some of the best research facilities and analytical tools in Canada, USask is the choice of close to 4,200 Master’s and PhD students. The university offers more than 80 fields of study for graduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral studies, including three graduate schools of public health, public policy and environment and sustainability.

Developing solutions to global challenges require the best and brightest minds, and approaches that transcend disciplinary boundaries. For instance, environmental problems require researchers and students from multiple fields of knowledge to better understand and resolve them.

At USask, expertise from the graduate School of Environment and Sustainability, graduate School of Public Health, Global Institute for Water Security, Global Institute for Food Security, the Toxicology Centre, Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, and many other colleges and research facilities are brought together in an interdisciplinary approach to examine problems of global importance related to climate change, environmental sustainability, and food and water security.

USask has highly integrated teams of medical, animal, social, and environmental scientists working to find solutions at the interface of animal, human and environmental health. Beyond the training of doctors, nurses and veterinarians, the university is home to a broad range of academic programming and world-renowned research facilities such as the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO) which holds over 80 U.S. patents for vaccines, six of them world firsts.

Our faculty and graduate students in agriculture, computer science, engineering, genomics, and public policy are working together through the Global Institute of Food Security and the Crop Development Centre to help feed the world through transformative innovations in digital agriculture and transformative plant breeding.

USask faculty and graduate students work shoulder to shoulder to address a wide range of basic and applied research challenges, including balancing the protection of the natural environment and the ever- increasing demands for energy and natural resources; carrying out experimental and theoretical investigations of advanced materials; and exploring human-computer interaction, image analysis and nuclear and particle physics. Harnessing the power of world-class facilities in synchrotron sciences, nuclear innovation and cyclotron sciences, scientific insights are translated into ground-breaking practical applications through local, national and international partnerships.

We are engaged in research and graduate student education partnerships worldwide. USask offers close to $20 million in graduate student funding including special scholarships for international students and Indigenous students. Our students work alongside top researchers, including more than 110 research chairs (17 of them Canada Research Chairs), one Canada Excellence Research Chair, numerous Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, 3M National Teaching Fellows, Killam Prize holders, and many other acclaimed faculty.

Our warm community welcomes people from around the world and right here at home, including growing numbers of Indigenous, Métis, and international students. It creates open dialogue, and fresh opportunities for learning inside and outside the classroom.
