Three Steps to Help You Choose the Right Business Specialization

A postgraduate degree is a perfect opportunity to build on your undergraduate learning and specialize further in a particular area of study - something which can be vital if you want to work in business or industry.
If you’re considering applying for a postgraduate degree but are finding the vast range of study options and degree programs available to you, allow us to help you choose the right specialization to fit your needs.
Firstly, try to find a program that matches your interests
There’s no point going back to university to study a degree you aren’t fully excited by. Fortunately, there’s such a wide range of top postgraduate degrees available now that you’ll almost certainly find a perfect fit for your passions and interests.
Often, it won’t be the first course that springs to mind either. For example, you may start your search by only considering business management degrees but then discover EDHEC’s MiM Global Economic Transformation & Technology (GETT) program. With its focus on sustainable development and the business transformations being driven by technological advances, this degree from EDHEC gets you much closer to the cutting edge of innovation than a traditional management degree.
It’s also worth considering the core modules and electives that will be available in your chosen program. GETT features core modules in big data, business ethics, strategic management, Blockchain, Cryptoeconomics, and the Future of Technology. So, pick the right degree and you should be able to structure your studies to match your own interests and eventual career goal.
Strive to find a postgraduate degree that offers a truly global experience
Once you’ve considered the modules and subjects you’re most keen to study at postgraduate level, it’s worth having a think about the type of environment you want to be learning in. After all, business is a truly global enterprise these days, so a program which offers the ability to travel, meet new cultures and even learn a new language should be at the top of your list.
At EDHEC, GETT students are taught in English but they’re also provided with the opportunity to learn a foreign language as part of their studies. As if that wasn’t enough, the program also sees its students travel and study in three different cities around the world. After being based at EDHEC in Paris, France for their first semester, students travel to the SSK Graduate School of Business in South Korea. The final year of their studies then takes place in Berkeley, USA at the Berkeley-Haas School of Business.
Finally, make sure you’re studying somewhere that offers plenty of career support
Building up your knowledge and awareness of how business is conducted around the world is all well and good, but it’s ultimately meaningless if you aren’t given the support required to find a top graduate job after you finish your studies. Practically every university and business school now offers a careers service to its students, but quality is likely to vary. Be sure to contact schools directly if you have any questions about how they help to prepare their students for the working world.
EDHEC students have access to career services throughout their studies, while those on the GETT program spend their second year on two six-month internships, acquiring professional work experience and putting what they’ve already learned to work in a real-world context. The fact the program was co-developed with leading business partners means there’s no shortage of top firms eagerly anticipating internship applications from EDHEC’s students, so you know you’ll walk away with invaluable experience and an eye-catching reference on your CV.
