Brazil and Chile may dominate the top of the rankings but there’s good news elsewhere for Mexico and Argentina. Mexico now has two universities in the top five in the region for the first time, after Tecnológico de Monterrey rose two places to fifth. Argentina’s highest-ranked university, the Universidad de Buenos Aires, has also had a good year, climbing two places to ninth.
10 countries in total are featured in the top 50 this year, while the entire ranking comprises nearly 400 universities. Universities have been assessed on seven different indicators, including the proportion of academic staff qualified to PhD level and their online presence. More information about the methodology can be found here.
