Biomedical Engineering graduates must be able to continue studying to a Biomedical Engineering Second Cycle Degree or similar, in Italy or abroad. In particular, when choosing a Second Cycle Degreein Biomedical Engineering, graduates must be able to rely on a solid knowledge of physics and mathematics and basic knowledge of information technology engineering, including industrial engineering notions, and take advantage of specific biomedical engineering transversal knowledge in order to continue their cultural, technical and scientific education with the ability to address interdisciplinary and innovative subjects, and integrate these studies with project-based dissertation and lab activities.

To continue studying to higher more complex and innovative levels, in addition to self-learning and continual updating of skills, graduates must have the ability to creatively use and improve competences acquired in the past, in view of their creative roles. They must have critical and problem analysis skills, be able to identify the relation between the different disciplines and understand their reciprocal connections.

To reach these objectives, the degree programme provides a solid knowledge of physics, mathematics and chemistry, as well as the fundamentals of information engineering and disciplines that emphasise typical mechanic and fluidodynamic aspects of industrial engineering. The degree programme also emphasises on engineering and biomedical interdisciplinary knowledge, which form the typical aspects of biomedical engineers' multidisciplinary culture.

Lastly, graduates must have the technical knowledge to allow them to integrate in one of the work activities of three-year engineering, with particular focus on medical equipment and its management/maintenance. However, the technical aspects must not affect the basic knowledge. To this end, the degree programme focuses on certain technical aspects of clinical engineering and biomedical equipment that can be useful in a professional context already at the end of the three-year programme.
