The program mission is to prepare competent graduates in dietetics, though an ACEND-approved didactic program in dietetics, who seek to service the dietary needs of patients, individuals, and the community. The program goals are to: prepare students for careers in dietetics and food related professions and/or advanced study in food related disciplines and prepare students to competitively apply for supervised practice. The Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) is the ACEND?s accrediting agency for education programs preparing students for careers as registered dietitians. Dietetics is the practical application of nutrition in the prevention and treatment of disease. Dietetics is an exciting and challenging profession because there are many diseases that are related to nutrition. These include coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and obesity. Completion of this program satisfies the academic requirements of the American Dietetic Association. This enables a student to apply for a Dietetic Internship following graduation. Completion of these requirements and passing of the Registration Examination for Dietitians meet the requirements for Registered Dietitian (R.D.) credential.
