Tunghai University was established in 1955 and is the first private university in Taiwan . Located on the level plateau of Taichung’s Tatu Mountain, it boasts a beautiful campus and significant archite ctural landmarks, including the world-famous Luce Chapel. A leading university with a long tradition in liberal arts education, Tunghai has 9 colleges, 37 departments and 39 Master’s programs (13 In-Service Master’s programs) and 14 PhD programs. The 9 colleges are the College of Arts, College of Science, College of Engineering, College of Management, College of Social Sciences, College of Agriculture, College of Fine Arts and Creative Design, College of Law, and the International College. Tunghai has a student body of approximately 16,000 students and close to 600 teachers . The total area of the Tunghai campus is 133 hectares. With its spacious campus, Tunghai has an ideal teaching and learning environment for its faculty and students. Tunghai has received 857 million NTD in funding from the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Excellence Project, making it one of just seven universities in Taiwan to receive funding every year since the Teaching Excellence Project was initiated twelve years ago. In addition, Tunghai graduates rank highly in recruitment rankings. These outstanding performances are credible indices of Tunghai’s constant pursuit of excellence in both teaching and academic development.
