Universidad Alberto Hurtado (UAH) was founded in 1997 by
the Society of Jesus to develop the research and graduate programmes created by
the Latin American Institute of Doctrine and Social Studies (ILADES), the Centre
for Research and Education Development (CIDE) and Roberto Bellarmino Foundation
which was founded in the mid-60s.
UAH is located in a historical preservation
neighbourhood with architecture dating from the early 20 th century.
Universidad Alberto Hurtado’s campus is situated in downtown Santiago de Chile.
Since its founding mission, UAH has been
conceived as an institution with a strong vocation for public service. Its
contribution to the human development and the promotion of a more just society,
both in Chile and Latin America, becomes visible through the excellence level
of an academic, intellectual and professional work, characterized by a
Christian, humanist, pluralist vision and a deep ethical and social sense.
Currently UAH has more than 4,500 students enrolled in 28 undergraduate programmes,
18 master’s degrees, 41 certificates
and one PhD programme in the following study areas: Social Sciences,
Humanities, Philosophy, Education, Law and Psychology.
The main language of instruction at UAH is
Spanish. Students are required to have B1 equivalent Spanish or four semesters
of Spanish to complete a semester exchange at UAH.
UAH offers an intensive 48-hr Spanish
programme over three or four weeks, organised by professors specialising in the
teaching of Spanish to non-native speakers. A pre-semester Intensive Spanish
Programme is also available for exchange students interested in improving their
language
proficiency.

America and The Caribbean (AUSJAL) and the Chilean Chapter of Catholic
Universities. UAH also maintains a close relationship with several North
American institutions belonging to the Association of Jesuit Colleges and
Universities (AJCU) network and became part of the Latin American Network of
Social Engagement and University Volunteering (REDIVU).
