Bachelor of Arts in Political Science

The Department of Political Science offers a program leading to the Bachelor of Arts in political science, which furthers the understanding of political processes and structures at the local, state, national and international levels. Central concerns include the relationship between governmental leaders and citizens, the relationships between nations and the effect on politics of economic, social and cultural forces. The study of political science is a basis for citizens’ responsible political participation and critical thinking, particularly in analyzing public policies. Internship and international field study courses provide hands-on experiences in the real political world. Political science prepares students for law school and graduate programs in political science, international studies, public administration and policy sciences. Careers for political science majors include government service (local, state or federal level), law, law enforcement, journalism, political campaign management, the military, intelligence agencies and lobbying.
