The Autonomous University of Guerrero was established in 1960. In addition to its main campus in the Mexican city of Chilpancingo, the university also has additional campuses and facilities in Acapulco, Taxco, Iguala, Tixtla, Ometepec, Tecpan de Galeana, Altamirano and other cities in the state. Away from the lecture theater or seminar group, the university is also home to a professional soccer team, Club Deportivo Águilas de la Universidad Autónoma de Guerrero. They currently play in the fifth tier of Mexican football.
