About Baku Slavic University

Being one of the oldest universities of Azerbaijan, Baku Slavic University (BSU) traces its roots back to 1946 when it was first established as the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute named after M.F. Akhundov. A significant milestone was achieved in 2000 when, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, Baku Slavic University came into existence.

Today, BSU proudly offers a diverse array of more than 90 educational programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, spanning across six faculties. The university's programs have expanded to encompass an extensive range of Slavic and European languages, as well as specialized fields such as Regional and Country studies, International Relations, Journalism, Translation, Education and Psychology. These programs are designed to cater to both local and international students, welcoming learners from all corners of the world.

The educational programs at BSU are designed to produce highly skilled professionals well-versed in the field that they chose to study. The University aims to prepare its graduates for success in diverse and multicultural job environments, particularly within international organizations. As part of its commitment to fostering global partnerships and cross-cultural exchanges, BSU maintains collaborative relationships with over 90 higher educational institutions across more than 20 countries.

Currently, BSU offers teaching of Slavic languages, including Bulgarian, Polish, Czech, Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian, as well as European languages such as English, French, German, Greek, and Turkish. This linguistic diversity provides students with opportunities to immerse themselves in various cultures and enhance their intercultural communication skills.

Through its rich history and continuous dedication to excellence, Baku Slavic University stands as a cornerstone of academic achievement and cross-cultural understanding, making significant contributions to education and society at large.

Currently, at the Baku Slavic University there are functioning 6 Faculties:

  • School of Social Sciences;
  • School of East European Languages;
  • School of West European Languages;
  • School of Education;
  • School of Philology;
  • School of Foreign Language Teaching.


In recent years BSU has undergone significant changes and modernization, and now the University is more than ever committed to providing quality education and contributing to the cultural and intellectual development of local community and the wider region.
