Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University

Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University(USMBA) is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities of the kingdomof Morocco. It was established in 1975 and is governed by law 01.00 whichorganizes Higher Education and allows it to enjoy a great deal of autonomy ofmanagement and operation.

The university includes one “InnovationCenter” and 12 establishments located in 3 campuses. It consists of 1370academic staff and 709 administrative staff. According to the statistics of2018 -2019, the number of students at USMBA is 86149.

 Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah Universityis intended for higher education and research organized following the LMDsystem and related to the fields of Science and Technology, Arts and Humanities, Law, Economic and Social Sciences.  The Universityissues different degrees: Bachelors, Masters, Doctorates, Engineering diplomas,medical doctor, University Degree of Technology and Degree in the field ofTrade and Management.  Besides, the present institution offers over than 200 training programs.

 The current university’s strategicplan aims at fostering a culture in which innovation plays a substantial roleby strengthening the university /industry relation through its ‘InnovativeCenter’’. The ultimate goal of that Center is to promote technology transferresearch results. This is done through the incubation of start-up which is atthe core of the center's activities/ aim.

The university pays special attention tothe quality of the relationship that should hold between local authorities andsociety. Thus, a number of contributions have been made through publication ofbooks, dissemination and application of knowledge in the form of chairsestablished by the university itself. Similarly, USMBA played an important role- at the national level - in the organization of the international event COP22,which was held in Marrakech in November 2016. The scientific contribution ofthe university is shown in the large number of papers and the university wasawarded in 2019 by Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science Group) as one of thebest universities of the kingdom.

 USMBA is aware of the positiveoutcomes of international and national collaborations. It develops actions indifferent fields of cooperation such as:

·     Partnership with national and international universities and organisms (about221 agreements)

·     Participation in several national and international programs focusing onvarious fields: business-university relation, ICT, environment, health, plantsand food, cultural heritage…etc (e.g,  since 2010, USMBA has been involvedas partner in about 50 European projects and as coordinator for 2 FP7projects).

Most importantly, USMBA has set up a‘’Student creativity Forum” in which various cultural activities are organizedproportionate to art, drama and music. The university believes that its firstand foremost mission is to provide students with the opportunities to broadentheir experiences and qualifying them for personal success and directusefulness in life. A case in point is the university‘s organization of “theInternational Festival of University Theater” each year. It also has aninnovative plan of development of sport activities.
