Irkutsk National Research Technical University

Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU) is a leading research university in Eastern Siberia and ranks among the most innovative and perspective. With a 90-years history dating back to 1930, the university provides a wide range of higher education and vocational training courses in Russian and English language for a strong and diverse community of learners.

Currently, the University has 18 000 Russian and foreign students including 1300 full-time foreign students. INRTU’s ultimate and prior goal is bringing up a new generation of specialists empowered to change the way they think and work towards a sustainable future. The idea of sustainable development is embodied in all educational programs.

The University offers bachelor’s, master's and doctoral  programs in such areas as architecture, design, transport planning, aircraft engineering, non-ferrous metallurgy, heat power and electrical engineering,  mechanical engineering, chemical technology, computer physics, applied mathematics and IT, oil and gas engineering, applied geology, sustainable economy, ecology,  international business, advertising, journalism and  law.

Educational greenfields

In 2017, INRTU launched Baikal School of BRICS where students from different countries study full-time English-taught bachelor’s and master’s degree programs being surrounded by English speaking group mates from Russia, China, Brazil, India, South Africa and other countries as well. Starting from the first year, distinguished Russian and foreign professors from India, Iran, Australia and other countries provide students with soft and hard skills, analytical thinking, teach to be creative, able to cooperate, network and adapt easily in the rapidly changing world.

Siberian School of Geosciences is the first research institute within INRTU university, which conducts research and teaches English-taught master's program in the field of “smart digital geology” and the use of artificial intelligence for processing large geodata.

Institute of Quantum Physics (launched in 2019) is a universal platform for advanced research in the field of quantum physics, combining the knowledge and experience of researchers working in leading Russian and foreign scientific institutions. The institute devotes its efforts to original research in the field of quantum physics oriented on solving of applied problems in astrophysics, atmospheric physics, gas dynamics, molecular physics, etc.

Science and research

The University has opened 121 modern research and scientific research laboratories, which conduct classes and research work in the field of nanotechnology, aircraft and mechanical engineering, energy, mining and oil and gas engineering, chemical technology, civil construction and architecture.

The base of the Irkutsk Research Center actively interacts with the Russian Academy of Sciences.

INRTU became a part of 8 technological platforms created in the Russian Federation, and 16 state-owned companies decided to involve our University in the implementation of its innovative development programs.

International cooperation and industrial partners

The strategic partners of the University are the largest reginal and foreign companies. INRTU provides services to foreign companies in such various areas as oil and gas exploration, composite machining, chemical synthesis engineering, BIM technologies in construction, ecology risks assessment and integrated ecological modeling; as well as contributes to the  construction of the most sophisticated domestically built civil aeroplane, MC-21.

INRTU’s industrial partners provide students with internships and future employment opportunities. Among our partners are Huawei, Samsung, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, Polymetal International PLC, Schlumberger, British Petroleum, Halliburton, En+ Group PLC, Irkut Corporation JSC, Rosneft Oil Company, etc.

INRTU conducts academic cooperation with Erasmus, Fulbright, and various partner-universities from Asia and Europe.

INRTU is a member in international associations, networks, organizations such as Silk Road University Network, Romualdo del Bianco Foundation, Association of SINO Russian technical universities. It is planned to further international relations development with foreign countries, expand new direction in the field of Ecology and Green Engineering, further academic exchange development and exchange programs, creating new laboratories.
