The University and its facultiesMid Sweden University is one of the ten largest institutions of higher education in Sweden. Undergraduate courses and research are organised principally under the two faculties of the Human Sciences and Technology and the Natural Sciences. There is also a committee for inter-disciplinary research. Mid Sweden University offers courses and undergraduate programmes in the following fields: the Humanities, the Social Sciences, Technology and the Natural Sciences, Teacher Training and the Health and Caring Sciences.Geographically, Mid Sweden University is located in the middle of Sweden, right at the heart of Northern Europe. Mid Sweden University has three campuses: Härnösand, Sundsvall and Östersund. They differ in character and partially in the course programmes offered.The campuses The city Härnösand, with approximately 25 000 inhabitants, is located about 450 kilometres north of Stockholm. It is one of the oldest centres of higher education in Sweden. The primary fields of study at Campus Härnösand are Education and the Humanities. The city Sundsvall is located about 400 kilometres north of Stockholm and with its approximately 94 000 inhabitants, it is one of the biggest cities in Northern Sweden. The main educational focus at Campus Sundsvall lies within the Natural Sciences, Technology, and Media, but it is also possible to study within the areas of Social Sciences and Health Sciences. The city Östersund, with approximately 60 000 inhabitants, is located about 180 kilometres to the northwest of Sundsvall. The main educational focus at Campus Östersund lies within the Social Sciences, the Natural Sciences and Technology. Courses are also offered within Health Sciences and Social Work. ResearchMid Sweden University has selected six priority areas in which it already has an extensive commitment. All three campuses have undergraduate courses and research in at least three of these areas. This enables Mid Sweden University to develop a high level of capability within the chosen fields, which makes the university more competitive. This profile also gives Mid Sweden University a clearer role in the research community. Co-operation with regional actorsMid Sweden University has an important role to play in the development of the region. The university has close links with industry and commerce, local authorities, governmental authorities and other bodies in the region. This co-operation is important to the development of Mid Sweden University and its ability to contribute to the development of the region.
