Shiraz University of Medical Sciences

The origins of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences can be traced back to 1946, when the Shiraz Institute of Higher Health Education welcomed its inaugural class of medical students. By 1949, the institute had evolved into a medical school, eventually becoming affiliated with Shiraz University (renamed Pahlavi University in 1954). In 1986, Shiraz University's medical faculties commenced operations under the auspices of the newly established Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education, forming an independent institution known today as Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS).

At present, SUMS boasts a comprehensive infrastructure, encompassing 17 schools, 55 research centers, 6 incubators, 45 public hospitals (including 14 teaching hospitals), and 2 community health centers in Shiraz. Moreover, it oversees 28 health networks throughout Iran's Fars province. The University is unwavering in its dedication to achieving excellence in education, research, and healthcare delivery. Its outstanding performance in complex surgical procedures and the provision of advanced medical services stands as a testament to its exceptional standards.
