University of Calabria

The University of Calabria (UNICAL for short) is a medium-sized university with about 25,000 students enrolled and around 1,000 academics (teaching and research staff).

It is made up of 14 Departments, which offer 80 Degree Programmes provided at Bachelor and Master's Level, as well as 10 PhD Programmes.

The University of Calabria is one of the most important and dynamic universities in Italy, where the learning experience becomes an extraordinary opportunity in terms of human and professional development.

It is the largest and best equipped University Campus in Italy, strectching over a green area of more than 200 hectares in the urban area of Cosenza and Rende, in Southern Italy.

The Campus offers, among many others, the following facilities: Residential Centre, Canteens, Health Centre, Bank Agency, Post Office, Library, Sports Centre, Language Centre, two theatres (with 300 and 550 seats, respectively), two movie theatres (of 250 seats each), two amphitheatres for outdoor events and a day nursery.

UNICAL's mission is to advance knowledge and contribute to society through the pursuit of education, learning, and research at the international levels of excellence.

Since its very beginning, UNICAL has clearly set out the strategies for the development of its international dimension, as the following achievements clearly show.

Nowadays, it has established 251 international cooperation agreements with institutions of 54 countries along with about 500 agreements in the Erasmus+ framework.

Thanks to the UnicalAdmission Programme, Unical is home to over 950 international students, coming from 83 different countries, the highest number among Southern Italy universities.

For the next academic year, 120 scholarships will be dedicated to international students at MSc level.

UNICAL gives particular relevance to the development of international mobility of students and staff: around 600 outgoing and incoming students participate in Erasmus+, MOST (extra-EU mobility), or DUAL (Double Degree) study abroad programmes. Furthermore, two important outgoing and incoming mobility programmes for teachers and researchers financed by the Calabria Region - TeMA and Vis - will be launched shortly.

Last but not least, it is important to highlight the presence of the University of Calabria in the first positions of the Italian University Ranking, CENSIS, as well as its presence in important international rankings such as THE (World, Young, Teaching, Impact), ARWU Shanghai Ranking, U-Multirank and Greenmetric Ranking of Sustainable Universities.
