Available programs

Master’s Degree in Economics and Finance

  • Economics Program. The Economics Program provides students with rigorous training for admission to top doctoral programs and for technically demanding careers. Students who complete this program will acquire an excellent grounding and deep understanding of the field's foundations, applications, and policies covering theoretical and empirical approaches.
  • Financial Economics Program. The Financial Economics Program is a comprehensive course that prepares you for the most technically demanding jobs in banking, consulting and asset management.

Master’s Degree in Specialized Economic Analysis

  • Competition, Regulation, and Markets Program. In the Competition, Regulation, and Markets Program you will acquire an advanced understanding of the interaction between theory and practice as well as the qualifications necessary for solid placement in the field.
  • Economics of Energy, Climate Change, and Sustainability Program. In the Economics of Energy, Climate Change, and Sustainability Program you will acquire an advanced understanding of the rapidly changing energy sector, learn how economic theory and data tools can be used to understand their functioning and trends, and develop the qualifications needed for solid placement in the field.
  • Economics of Public Policy Program. The Economics of Public Policy Program will prepare you for analytical positions at public institutions, international organizations, consulting firms, research institutions and think tanks.
  • International Trade, Finance, and Development Program. The ITFD Program provides rigorous training in the economics of international finance, trade, and development for students interested in demanding professional careers and doctoral programs.
  • Macroeconomic Policy and Financial Markets Program. Macro Program graduates acquire the skills demanded by consulting firms, investment banks and government agencies.

Master’s Degree in Data Science

  • Data Science Program. The Data Science for Decision Making Program prepares its graduates to design and build data-driven systems for decision-making in the private or public sector.
  • Data Science Program. The Data Science Methodology Program aims to train future leaders in the field with a deeper understanding of the underlying methods, along with the ability to develop techniques for new and/or non-standard problems.

At the Barcelona School of Economics we look for excellence and talent. Key elements of a strong application are a high GPA, a sound statement of purpose and standout reference letters. Strong knowledge in Economics and good quantitative skills are also recommended.

With one campus just steps from the Mediterranean Sea and the other in the middle of a beautiful mountain landscape, Barcelona School of Economics students and researchers have two unique environments for their academic activities.

Barcelona School of Economics study programs and research centers are located on two main campuses:

The BSE's Ciutadella Campus at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in central Barcelona is within walking distance of both the beach and the city's financial, cultural, and governmental centers.

The BSE's Bellaterra Campus at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is a self-contained location that offers students all of the services they need in their day-to-day lives. It is an easy half-hour train ride from the city center.

Our students are talented and motivated, who we connect with top-ranking researchers, experienced teaching faculty, international alumni and a strong recruiter network.

The objective of our rigorous nine-month Master’s programs is to prepare graduates for professional and academic careers that require intense analytical thinking and a flexible mindset.


Last cohort at a glance

Last cohort is made up of 259 students, from 57 countries, with an average age of 25 years. Most students have undergraduate degrees in Economics or Finance. Others come from Engineering, Mathematics, or other backgrounds.

Students from around the world

90% of students are from outside of Spain. These students bring an enriching mixture of professional backgrounds, cultural perspectives, and personal experiences to the classroom.

Work experience before the master program

We have 80% of students who graduate from their undergraduate degree to study for a master's. The remaining students have professional experience at consulting firms, international organizations, banks, research institutions, and government agencies.

The BSE offers programs leading to three master degrees: the  Master Degree in Economics and Finance , the  Master Degree in Specialized Economic Analysis  and the  Master Degree in Data Science . For more information on the different Masters, you can visit our Master website.
Yes. All BSE Master's degrees have been recognized by the Catalan and Spanish Education authorities and within the framework of the Bologna Process (in Spanish,  “Master Universitario o Master Oficial ”).
You may list up to three programs on your application for the same academic year. When you submit your application you will select:
Single Offer Option (receive one offer based on your order of preference) Multiple Offers Option (receive up to three offers) More information about these options is detailed on the admissions page under "Choose single or multiple offer option".
