Savitribai Phule Pune University

Savitribai Phule Pune University (formerly known as University of Pune) was established on February 10th 1949, with Dr. M.R.Jaykar as its first Vice-Chancellor. Today, this university, ranked number 10 in the NIRF (National ranking of the Ministry of HRD, Government of India),  is a leading University covering three districts in Maharashtra State, namely, Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik. The university strives to provide an academically conducive environment, to help create “Globally Competent Graduates” capable of taking on challenges and rapidly changing responsibilities in the dynamic world. The main educational programs offered by the University are extended through a comprehensive course structure, with a perfect blend of modern pedagogy with traditional delivery mechanisms. More than 400 programs covering different disciplines are offered at the Undergraduate and Post-Graduate levels to create skilled manpower for the nation. Doctoral research is conducted in a wide range of fields addressing the national goals and societal needs. A Research Park has been set up to promote culture of research and innovation in students and faculty by acting as an incubator to help convert ideas into business proposition. A Center for Innovation, Incubation and Linkages promotes innovative start ups through university ecosystem. 

The number of colleges affiliated to the University and its student population has rapidly increased in last few years, due to excellent facilities at affordable costs. The university attracts  global learners. The growing international student community enriches the cultural diversity on campus. Academic enrichment through workshops, seminars and conferences organised by the departments in their specialised areas, provides additional inputs to students. The central library houses lakhs of books and is a part of the universal digital library program that implemented RFID and smart card technology. The entire campus is Wi-Fi Enabled. A section 8 IT company belonging to the university  provides the platform for MOOCs, e-learning, and e-Administration required by the university.  

The university believes in all round development of the students. Contributing towards a 'Fit Nation', the campus offers an excellent Sports Complex that includes ground for outdoor games and athletics, courts for basket ball, tennis, volleyball, and a well quipped gymnasium and facility for Yoga + Meditation.   The Lalit Kala Kendra on the campus provides formal education in Music, Dance and Theatre, and also hosts numerous programs by renowned Artists. It strikes a balance between rich cultural heritage of India and creating contemporary awareness in the young creative minds.  Cultural programs are organised in departments to promote talent amongst students.

The campus provides housing at reasonable rates to the students. Round the clock medical facilities are available in Health Center. The Alumni Center makes effort to remain connected with the students who have graduated earlier. The placement center connects with the industries and assists students in getting their dream jobs.
