Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev was founded in 1917. Throughout its history NNSTU graduated more than 270 thousand engineers, scientific and technical workers, lecturers. More than 80% of heads of industrial enterprises in the Nizhny Novgorod region are NNSTU graduates.
Nowadays 13 thousand students study at NNSTU in 35 areas of bachelor's degree training, 31 areas of master's degree training, 14 areas of highly qualified personnel training.
The university cooperates with foreign universities, enterprises and research organizations from more than 40 countries. NNSTU is a leading university of Russian-Chinese University Alliance of the Volga Federal District and the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River which unites more than 80 educational organizations of two countries.
NNSTU is a member of Association of Engineering Education in Russia, Association of Technical Universities, STAR-NET (IAEA nuclear education network), "StudyVolga" interactive resource for students and applicants.
Annually more than 5000 students undergo training and retraining at the university.
The main directions of scientific research are concentrated in the fields of nuclear power engineering, ground transportation systems, mechanical engineering, electric power engineering, shipbuilding, chemistry, nanotechnologies, materials science, radio electronics and radar systems, information and control systems, economic security.
NNSTU has 19 scientific schools, 13 dissertation councils. More than 50 people annually take PhD degrees and Doctor of Science. NNSTU employees annually publish more than 1000 scientific articles, among which more than 400 are included in international citation databases, receive more than 80 national and international patents. The university publishes 4 scientific and technical journals.
NNSTU scientific complex infrastructure includes more than 30 research laboratories, scientific and educational centers, student design bureaus, a business incubator, 8 small innovative enterprises, 23 basic scientific laboratories created in conjunction with leading research institutes and industrial enterprises. There are unique scientific stands at NNSTU that have no analogues in the world.
The university has a highly qualified personnel potential. The number of teaching staff is 862 people, including 593 with a scientific degree. The level of qualification of scientific and pedagogical staff is confirmed by the fact that more than 100 NNSTU employees are experts of national and international levels. NNSTU has completed 2 projects within the framework of the national program to attract leading world-class scientists to work in Russian universities. Every year the university implements a number of projects within the framework of EU programs (Erasmus +, etc.).
One of the key areas of personnel policy is to ensure qualification growth, training and retention of young lecturers and researchers.
