Vitebsk State Medical University

Vitebsk State Medical University (VSMU) is one of the the largest and most distinguished medical establishment of higher education in Belarus with more than 7200 students from 43 countries.  Established in 1934, VSMU is famous for its quality of medical education. The quality management system of the university meets the international ISO 9001 standards. 

Main material facilities of VSMU are:

- 15 clinical sites;
- 8 hostels, 3 canteens, medical library;
- Sport gyms, stadium, health and fitness centers;
- Scientific laboratory and vivarium;
- University hotel complex;
- VSMU-owned clinic, dental clinic;
- Educational-manufacturingdrug store;
- Practical skills and medical simulation learning centre;
- Center of Transfer of Medical and Pharmaceutical Technologies.

Educational process in VSMU is carried out at 8 faculties:
- Preparatory Training Faculty;
- General Medicine Faculty; 
- Pharmaceutical Faculty; 
- Stomatological Faculty; 
- Faculty of Overseas Students Training;
- Faculty of Advanced Training and Staff Retraining;
- Faculty of Advanced Training and Staff Retraining in Psychology and Pedagogic;
- Peoples Faculty “Health Protection”.

Educational process is organized at 68 chairs, where 64 doctors and 258 candidates of sciences work, among them there are 53 professors and 199 associate professors.

VSMU offers traditional European Schedule of training: lectures, seminars, laboratory and training classes. Training is available in Russian and English languages. Since 2017 VSMU provides for foreign entrants distant preparatory courses in chemistry and biology. 

Training of clinical disciplines is carried out in cycles (1 – 3 weeks) in 15 state hospitals and medical centers with necessary modern medical-diagnostic equipment.

VSMU has 17 functioning educational research schools of sciences in biomedical, clinical and pharmaceutical disciplines and its own 4 scientific editions. Journal “Surgery digest” is indexed in Scopus.

VSMU has experimental transplantation laboratory. Its main activities are:
- Surgery skill training on animals;
- Training the procedure of tissue and organs transplantation;
- Advanced training of medical personnel;
- Implementation of scientific projects.       

There is a modern library at the University with total stock of 550 000 copies of books in Russian and foreign languages. The library provides online-access to research databases, eBooks, e-journals (Medicine Collection eBooks, EBSCO, SCOPUS, SPRINGER, Oxford, Wiley, BMJ, Medicine Collection Journals) to academic staff and students. Online repository of VSMU contains more than 8000 full-text scientific and professional publications of university and is constantly updated with new materials.

VSMU has its online e-learning system, whereby the majority of educational materials are simultaneously available to students via the Internet from mobile devices and appropriate mobile applications.

The degrees awarded on graduation of Vitebsk State Medical University are recognized by World Health Organization (WHO), Educational Commission for Foreign Medial Graduates (ECFMG, Philadelphia, USA), Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS, Dallas, USA), Lithuanian Center For Higher Education Quality Assessment, Ministry of Education of the Republic of Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Medical Councils of India, Republic of Maldives, Ireland and etc.
