Muroran Institute of Technology (MuroranIT) produces scientific and technical experts with a background in specialized engineering and information fields through "educational capabilities based on well-established research expertise".

 

The science and technology professionals required in the future will be those with a deep knowledge of mathematics, data science, and AI, as well as in the specialized fields of science and engineering. MuroranIT systematically provides quality education in the traditional science and engineering fields and information fields. We produce dedicated professionals with a strong expertise in these fields.

Muroran IT's research strengths are particularly represented in the spheres of Aerospace Aircraft, Rare Earth Materials, and Computer Science. In these areas, we continually conduct successful international joint research and achieve world-class research results. Some famous examples of our research output include the 2021 launch of the Hirogari microsatellite from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility, research publications in the journal Nature, and consistent high rankings in computer science and engineering publications. We will continue to nurture research that will build upon these strengths and ensure that Muroran Institute of Technology's research ability flourishes.

The Department of Sciences and Informatics is close to basic sciences and covers all fields from the fundamentals of various industries. Students are taught common subjects up to the first semester of the second year so that they can determine what kind of specialized knowledge they want to learn from the university and what they want to contribute to society in the future. Therefore, it is possible to learn a wide range of natural sciences and information subjects within this department.

The Graduate School of Engineering encompasses the entire spectrum of engineering and emphasizes the cultivation of innovative doctoral graduates who can respond flexibly to changes in research fields engendered by advances in science and technology and to the needs of companies involved in a broad range of related fields.

 

MuroranIT is a national university located in southern Hokkaido, Japan. It conveniently sits just 90 kilometers west of New Chitose Airport. Southern Hokkaido is famous for its natural beauty, having a strong connection to indigenous Ainu culture and is famous for volcanic hot springs.   The university itself has a long history dating back to 1887 and today serves more than 2800 students from within Japan and around the world. 

MuroranIT is a vibrant and engaging place to be a student. On the academic side, the newly redeveloped (2022) university library maintains and provides an extensive array of books, journals, electronic journals, databases, and other resources for study, research, and learning. Extensive extracurricular activities allow students to get involved in a wide range of athletic and cultural clubs and groups.
